What is different about a column?
A column holds one kind of storage from top to bottom. Viking’s integrated, panel-ready line includes all-refrigerator and all-freezer columns, and it is the freezer column that carries the ice maker, with its own water filter behind a metal guard held on by magnets. Each column is a complete appliance with its own refrigeration system, so a warm refrigerator column says nothing about the freezer beside it.
Which symptoms point where?
In a refrigerator column, a warm cabinet with little air moving points at the fan, or at a coil frosted over because a defrost part failed. In a freezer column, soft food and frost on the back wall tell the same story. The sealed system (compressor, tubing and refrigerant) is measured only once airflow and defrost check out.
